The Kenyan Cultures

The staple diet of the people of Kenya depends on their culture. The Kikuyu staple food is the githeri, the Luo the fish and the luhya ugali and chicken. They do eat other forms of African dishes but every cultural group is more affiliated to a particular meal. These foods are traditionally cooked and served. Most hotels serve these dishes regardless of the location.

Ugali is the national dish. This is made from maize flour mixed with boiling water to form a solid consistence. It is served mainly with green vegetables or meat. Green vegetables especially kales are very popular. They are cheap and affordable. Locally, they are known as sukuma wiki which literally means, stretch the week. Today, there is a threat of the young generation not knowing their roots and culture. Cultural events for different tribes are being organized where one can enjoy tradition food, beer and dances. Even traditional clothes can bought at these fairs.

Comal White Water or More Blue Green

White Water on the Comal River in Central Texas is more of toobers paradise than a rafter or kayaker"s dreamland, but for a fun and relaxing family adventure; I highly recommend the trip. For the second time in as many years my family and I spent a few days partaking of fun, water and sun in and around New Braunfels, Texas on the Comal and Guadalupe rivers. Day one was spent on the Comal floating gently down the lazy 72 degree water from Prince Solms Park to the Rockin R take out. I have always rented tubes from Rockin R for as long as I can remember Rockin R claims to have been established in 1979, so maybe that first time I went to Camp Warneke it wasn"t called Rockin R, but it sure seems it was on the same corner. Though Camp Warneke is no longer, the signs along the river still point to a simpler time when multi-million dollar water parks didn"t dominate the landscape of New Braunfels.
