The Aberdare National Park - Travel Kenya - Kenya, Africas' Safari Destination
The park is covered with red volcanic soils rich in organic matter which supports the dense vegetation. It receives high amounts of heavy rainfall through out the year and acts as a catchments area which flows to the Tana and Athi rivers.The park is easily accessible both by air from Mweiga airstrip & Nyeri airstrip or by road from Nairobi. The park lies 200 kms from Nairobi when using the Nyeri gates,138 km using Naivasha Mutubio gate and 233 km when using the Nyahururu route past Thomsonò€™s falls along Nyahururu-Nyeri highway. A road runs across the park from the eastern to the Mutubio gate on the west of the park. The road network is excellent though Four wheel vehicles make it when wet.
Some of the major attractions include game viewing, fishing, climbing the Lesatima peak, elephants, black rhinos, famous Tree-tops lodge, Mau mau caves used for hideout during the freedom fight, rugged terrain and moorlands suitable for walks, great clear streams flowing from its scenic slopes.
Accommodation facilities in the park include the Ruhuruini camp, Fishing lodge, sapper huts among others within the park or around the park.
